Pupil Premium and COVID-19 Catch up funding

Pupil Premium Online Statement

The pupil premium grant is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England. It’s a school-level grant that gives schools extra resources to help them meet challenges, including those arising from deprivation.

The Dawnay School uses the funding  flexibly, in the best interests of each eligible pupil. Our Pupil Premium Lead  applies a ‘tiered’ approach to delivering our pupil premium strategy.

Tier 1: Improving Teaching for all

Our school leaders use the Pupil Premium to contribute to the training and development of all our staff, aiming to improve the overall quality of education for all pupils.

Tier 2: Academic support and interventions

We identify the main issues and barriers that stop our pupils from succeeding at school and use the pupil premium to fund the extra help through academic support and targeted interventions.

Tier 3: Wider approaches

We also use the Pupil Premium to fund a range of non-academic approaches  such as:

  • Access to school breakfast clubs and after school clubs
  • Access to curriculum enrichment, such as music lessons
  • Help with the cost of uniform, resources, and educational trips or visits

We also use the pupil premium to help:

  • Improve behaviour, attendance and punctuality
  • Increase pupils’ confidence and resilience
  • Encourage pupils to be more adventurous with the clubs they attend
  • Benefit non-eligible pupils through allocation of school resources

A longer term strategy

The Dawnay School takes a longer view of the support the grant provides. Leaders plan the use of the grant to support children as they pass through the whole school to the next stage of their education/destination. We do this by aligning our pupil premium strategy with our wider school improvement planning

COVID-19 Catch Up Premium

The Dawnay have used this funding for specific activities to support our pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months during lockdown.

We have allocated the funding in a way that suits our school's individual cohort and circumstances. We have used the funding for specific activities which will help our pupils catch up on missed education.

To support us to make the best use of this funding, we have used the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) guidance  coronavirus (COVID-19) support guide for schools that provides us with evidence-based approaches to catch up for all students.
