All our Year 3s in September will have taken part in the new Surrey First Access recorder lessons, whereby every Year 2 child has been learning to play the recorder. If your child would like to continue learning the recorder in Year 3 we can provide private lessons with our recorder specialist teacher Mrs. Frost. The cost of the lessons will be £35 for the Autumn Term We are extremely fortunate to have Mrs Frost teach at The Dawnay. She teaches in small groups on a Friday lunchtime and the children make excellent progress.
If your child comes from a school where they have not had recorder lessons in Year 2 there will be the opportunity for them to join a beginners group taught by Mrs Gilbertson on Monday lunchtimes. There is no charge for this club and application froms for this club will be available in September.
I would be very happy to talk through your child’s instrumental choice with you. I am usually around after school on Wednesdays. As a general guide, piano and stringed instruments can be started from age 5. Children can learn the ukulele from Year 2 . Most other instruments can be started in Year 3. We do hope your children take up these musical opportunities at The Dawnay in September.
