Music at The Dawnay
Music has a particularly strong heritage at The Dawnay. Our specialist music teacher, Mrs Wood, takes every opportunity for everyone to be involved in local events such as Carol Singing at Polesden Lacey and at Bookham Late Night Shopping evening. Children enjoy taking part in Young Voices at the O2; singing with the Leatherhead Choral Society at the Leatherhead Theatre as well as singing with the Band of the Royal Marines at Dorking Halls.
We have an Infant and Junior Choir and an orchestra “The Dawnay Players”. Your child will have the opportunity to learn an instrument such as guitar, recorder, drums, flute, clarinet, trumpet, piano and cello. Our recent Harp workshop was a great hit with every child and it is experiences like this that inspire children to consider unusual possibilities for themselves in the future.
Every Upper Junior child has lessons in either clarinet or trumpet, and a high percentage of the school’s population engage in some form of musical activity outside of regular music lessons in class. Each year the Infants present a Harvest Festival, Christmas Play and take part in the local Music Festival and the Juniors perform in the Christmas ‘Christingle’ service; a Summer Concert and a musical production. The standards of all of these are second to none.
